This seminar provided an opportunity to consider the future of legal education and training in England and Wales, as legal regulators and policymakers took forward their response to the Legal Education and Training Review (LETR) final report.
Sessions brought together key stakeholders working across the current legal education and training framework - including colleges, universities, careers advisory services, training providers and legal regulators - alongside law firms, chambers and other prominent legal employers to discuss how the LETR's findings might impact on the future of the sector. Delegates considered how undergraduate legal study can adapt to a fast evolving legal services market; the future of training contracts and the possible emergence of alternative training pathways. Latest thinking on post-qualification continuing professional development; challenges ahead for diversity and mobility across the legal workplace; and the LETR's wider implications for competitiveness, skills and professional competence were also subjects of discussion.
