This seminar provided a timely opportunity to consider the next steps for commissioning support services in the NHS.
With NHS England due to publish details on how Commissioning Support Units (CSUs) can become standalone entities, delegates discussed the operational and structural challenges of 'autonomising' CSUs, and considered the potential role of GPs in hosting CSUs, as well as the opportunities for the independent and third sectors.
Further sessions focused on the progress of CSUs to date, the role of NHS England in hosting them until 2016, and the development of relationships with other bodies such as Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), as well as the ways in which CCGs are supported in fulfilling their requirements to improve outcomes and to save money.
