Next steps for food labelling policy: consumer information and priorities for food manufacturers

November 2012

Starting from: £99 + VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

Following the publication of the European Parliament's Food Information for Consumers Regulation (FIR)in 2011, this seminar focused on the direction of food labelling policy in the UK. With nutritional labelling regulations due to apply from 2016 - and supporting research on how nutritional information should be presented ongoing - discussion centered on whether traffic light labelling and other expressions of nutritional information should be used on Front-of-Pack (FOP) labelling moving forward. As debate about Country-of-Origin-Labelling (COOL) progressed, delegates also assessed what COOL requirements would mean for food manufacturers, with the agenda including an update on the state-of-play regarding requirements around primary ingredients in pre-prepared meals.

Discussion throughout the seminar was informed by the latest thinking on what consumers want from food labelling - as well as the extent to which labels are used to inform purchasing habits.
