As negotiations on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy continued in the European Parliament, this seminar was a timely opportunity to assess the progress of reform. It followed concern from the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs that proposed reforms fell short of meeting the key challenges of making farming more competitive and more sustainable.
Discussion focused on the impact of proposed reforms for the UK farming industry, including proposals on 'greening', the end of the Single Payment Scheme, and changes to future rural development programmes. The agenda also included an update on the EU's 2014-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and its implications for CAP reform.
