With the release of The Government Alcohol Strategy, this timely seminar brought together key policymakers, public health professionals and stakeholders from across the alcohol trade to discuss the future of alcohol policy.
Sessions brought out the latest thinking on how the proposal to ban multi-buy discount deals and set a minimum price per unit would affect levels of drinking, examining how drinkers and public health would be affected and the impact for retailers and the drinks industry. The agenda also included an update on minimum pricing in Scotland as the Scottish Government considered the options for a unit price on alcohol, following the introduction of the Alcohol (Minimum Pricing) Bill.
Delegates assessed what more could be done to tackle harmful drinking and support recovery from alcohol misuse, including the role of alcohol marketing, licensing and further measures to tackle the problems of late-night drinking, including proposed 'sobriety schemes'.
