This seminar was supported by the Crop Protection Association
This seminar brought together policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the key priorities for food security, both internationally and in the UK. One year on from the launch of the Foresight report on Global Food and Farming Futures - which called for a redesign of the global food system focused around sustainability - sessions assessed whether the report's recommendations were being put into practice. The seminar examined the key challenges for the food system and included rising demand for food, increasing pressure on resources and the effects of global environmental change, and looked at how far technology should be used to increase agricultural productivity, as well as considering the prospects for an agroecological approach to food security. Delegates also considered the implications of global food insecurity for UK farmers and food businesses, as well as the priorities for policymakers in the light of ongoing reform of the Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy.
