This seminar brought out the latest thinking on nutrition in health and social care, and considered the next steps required for improving nutritional care to deliver better healthcare outcomes. Sessions covered the importance of improving nutritional care in saving lives, as well as helping to conserve the health service's resources. Discussions took place in the context of major changes to the NHS and the introduction of public spending constraints, and referred to the role of nutrition in hospitals as part of supporting the Government's stated aim of promoting a patient-led NHS - including the use of patient-reported outcomes and patient experience measures in the area of nutritional care. Further sessions considered the impact of personal budgets on nutritional care, both for service users and for the care catering sector.
