Publications
Shortly after every Westminster Education Forum seminar, a briefing document is produced. This is distributed to all delegates on the day as well as to our contacts in government, parliament and stakeholders in the education sector more widely.
A Forum publication provides a timely record of proceedings, and acts as a guide to the latest thinking on current policy issues for those unable to be at the event.
Each publication includes:
- All speeches from the day, with accompanying slides and speaker biographies
(subject to approval by speaker); - Transcripts of question and comment sessions;
- Supplementary articles from speakers and delegates; and
- Event information such as the delegate list and final agenda
Special Educational Needs - next steps
TO BE PUBLISHED November 2010
This timely seminar will look at the future of educational provision for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a climate of severe budgetary constraint. It comes as the Government prepares to launch a wide-ranging Green Paper on SEN in the autumn, and follows Ofsted’s review of SEN provision due to be published this summer. Sessions are expected to examine how Special Educational Needs provision is likely to be affected by proposed changes to the school system, including the establishment of Free Schools and the increase in the number of Academies. The seminar will also consider possible changes to the policy of previous government, which seemed to favour the inclusion of pupils with SEN in mainstream schools. We also expect speakers to examine arguments for policy alternatives, as well as for more support for special schools
