This seminar discussed the next steps required to meet the challenges of obesity and assessed the progress of regional and national approaches to obesity prevention in achieving lasting behavioural change. Sessions examined the way forward in developing evidence-based practice in obesity prevention and care, and participants analysed the performance of current social marketing campaigns such as Change4Life. Discussion also considered the cost-effectiveness of different approaches to tackling obesity in the context of constraints on public spending. The seminar was timed to allow delegates an opportunity to evaluate proposals in the Public Health White Paper, and examined the impact of the White Paper on the provision of weight management services and care across the health service and local authorities.
