Following the publication of the first set of A-level results since the introduction of the new A* grade, this timely seminar examined whether A-levels are meeting the needs of students, universities and employers and looked at possible alternatives. Sessions looked at the accuracy and reliability of results, whether the introduction of the new A* grade will make it easier for universities to evaluate the performance of students; if there should be a move towards a standard university entrance examination to supplement A-levels; and whether universities should play a greater role in deciding the content of A-levels.
