The timely seminar examined key elements of the Government's science strategy Science and Society, as the five Expert Groups tasked with delivering its key objectives began work. Sessions examined how a more science-literate society could be created, the strengths and weaknesses of the current system of science education, including how the quality of science learning in schools can be improved, and how student take-up of science subjects, especially at A-level, can be increased. The seminar also looked at how more young people can be encouraged to choose science as a career, and examined the skills needs of the science industry and the contribution science makes to the UK economy.
