Following a Government review of waste policy, this seminar examined the challenges and benefits associated with moving towards a 'zero-waste' economy. Delegates examined the progress of current programmes designed to reduce waste from packaging and food, both in industry and in the home. Discussion also looked forward to the approaches that the food industry and consumers can take to move towards a cut in landfill volumes and reduction in carbon emissions, including using nanotechnology in packaging, and anaerobic digestion as a waste management process and renewable energy producer.
