As the Government began consulting on where to build five new prisons and private contractors bid to design, build and manage the institutions, this seminar examined the future for financing and management of the system. Sessions focused on the design plans for new, larger-scale prisons and how the existing infrastructure - and the prison service itself - should be modernised to meet the needs of prisoners, those working in the criminal justice system and society as a whole.
