This seminar evaluated the next steps for the smart meter roll-out in the UK.
Sessions assessed implementation of Government plans to make homes more intelligent and energy-efficient, including what is needed to ensure the network can handle the roll-out and next steps for home energy controls more widely. There was also discussion on customer engagement, opportunities for billing and tariff-switching, adapting to changing consumer behaviours, legal issues around the use of data, and on potential early problems with adoption and system design.
The conference took place following the publication of the Science and Technology Committee’s smart meters inquiry report - which found that Government is not being clear on the benefits of the new meters and recommended improved engagement with customers.
