With the childhood obesity plan outlining an industry voluntary agreement to cut sugar in food and drink by 20% and encouraging primary school children to exercise for an hour a day, this timely seminar provided an opportunity to discuss the impact and implementation issues.
Discussion was also informed by the related consultation on the design and implementation of the Soft Drinks Industry Levy, Public Health England’s Eatwell Guide, and new rules from the Committee of Advertising Practice banning the advertising of high fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) food or drink products in children’s media.
Delegates discussed next steps for improving the nutritional content of foods, including portion size and sugar reduction, and further preventative measures for reducing the prevalence of obesity during early years and in school, including physical activity.
