In light of the Government’s commitment to increased health devolution in England, this timely seminar brought together policymakers and healthcare professionals to discuss next steps for tackling health inequalities affecting sections of the community and individual communities themselves.
Attendees also examined progress and best practice in coordination between the NHS, local authorities, the third sector and public sector partners to reduce health inequalities, looking at local initiatives to address social determinants to public health and developing evidence-based approaches in prevention, particularly in deprived areas.
Further sessions focused on the £200 million in savings that the Department of Health will implement across different local authorities, and how the relative impact of cuts on areas with different levels of deprivation will affect the demand on healthcare services and health inequalities.
