This seminar assessed infrastructure planning policy across the UK, following the creation of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority from the Major Projects Authority and Infrastructure UK in January 2016. With the National Infrastructure Commission having issued its recommendations for intelligent energy, transport in London and the Northern Powerhouse, delegates drew lessons from delivering nationally-significant projects such as Crossrail and assess the long-term plans for future projects.
Further sessions included discussion on infrastructure development in housing, communications and utilities, as well as issues around local decision-making and planning for energy projects, such as onshore wind and hydraulic fracking. Following Parliamentary inquiries into investor confidence in the energy sector and access to finance, there was also an assessment of priorities for investment, including access to private and public sector capital.
