With digital music revenues now on a par with those from physical formats, this seminar offered delegates a timely opportunity to analyse latest trends in the global music market and the implications for the economics of the UK music industry - with particular focus on the evolution of online streaming services, new payment models, brand partnerships and the outcome of the EU referendum.
Further sessions examined the way forward for closing the gap in the digital environment between the value that digital platforms extract from music and that which is returned to rights owners, and considered the future role of the UK in negotiating and implementing the European Commission’s action plan for reforming the EU-level copyright framework.
Sessions also focused on the future priorities of Central and local government, as well as industry, in supporting the next generation of UK artists and the discoverability of new music with particular focus on the sustainability of grassroots music venues.
