Policy priorities for transgender equality

June 2016

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

Delegates at this seminar discussed next steps for achieving transgender equality, and how legislation - including the Gender Recognition Act, the Equality Act 2010 and the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act - is working for trans people.
Delegates focused on how transgender equality issues are dealt with by Whitehall departments and agencies, as well as how they are treated by schools, the NHS and the criminal justice system following a number of government initiatives to try and advance equality.
Discussion was informed by evidence given to the Women and Equalities Commons Select Committee's inquiry which sought to address the obstacles transgender people face in achieving equal rights.
Further sessions addressed concerns around transphobia, including the portrayal of trans people in the media and the levels of hate crime trans people experience, and how to secure improved employment protections for trans people during recruitment and for those who transition at work.
