Delegates assessed the Government’s progress towards achieving its domestic and European energy generation decarbonisation targets, and the future shape of subsidy regimes for new projects.
It was held in the context of changes to the planning system to provide local communities with the final say over onshore wind farm applications, in addition to the announcement of the early closure of the Renewables Obligation for new projects in April 2016.
Further discussion brought out the latest thinking on integrating new sources of renewable power to the electricity network and the future of storage capacity in the UK grid as well as the priorities for developing skills and meeting workforce requirements, in addition to the lessons that can be learnt from the most recent allocation of Contracts for Difference and what this will mean for the future auction of renewable project subsidies.
