Following the publication of the Jay Report, which examined historic cases of child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Rotherham from 1997-2013, delegates at this timely seminar considered the recommendations of the report, such as the need for greater multi-agency working, as well as steps since taken by government to strengthen child safeguarding procedures.
They also discussed measures to improve the accountability of children's services, such as the initial impact of new integrated inspections - bringing together the inspectorates of the police, probation and prisons services, Care Quality Commission and Ofsted - which came into effect in Autumn 2015.
Further sessions examined steps to raise the quality of children's social work in light of government's Knowledge and Skills Statement, which outlines 10 key skills requirements to be met by all child and family social workers, as well as reflected on the impact to date of recent graduate schemes, such as and Step Up to Social Work.
