Following the publication of the Airports Commission’s final report that recommended a new northwest runway at Heathrow Airport, this seminar was a timely opportunity to assess the future of UK airport capacity and regional air connectivity.
Delegates examined the Commission’s final recommendations and the next steps for policy, as well as the future of alternative proposals for Gatwick and the Heathrow Hub - in the context of the Government indicating that it will make a decision by the end of the year. Further sessions assessed priorities for regional airports in light of the start-up funding for new routes announced in March 2015 as part of the Regional Air Connectivity Fund.
Additional discussion brought out the latest thinking on mitigating the environmental impact of increased air capacity, meeting the intermodal transport requirements and the likely impact of future plans on passenger journeys.
