This conference brought together policymakers with key stakeholders in the sports sector, health, education and Local Government to examine the policy and strategic priorities for supporting the development of grassroots and high performance sport in the UK as the Government consults on their new strategy for sport.
The agenda included discussion on the value of grassroots sport for social inclusion, health and education - as well as how to address barriers to participation, next steps for ensuring effective provision of sports facilities to meet increasing demand, opportunities for cross-sector partnerships and the impact of changes to the sports curriculum one year on.
Delegates also considered the future funding and development of high performance sport in the UK - including issues surrounding participation, diversity and equality - and priorities for the Government, in light of UK Sport's confirmed plans to largely retain its 'no compromise' focus on supporting potential Olympic and Paralympic medallists after Rio 2016.
