Sessions at this seminar looked at future challenges and opportunities for independent schools in England, to coincide with the beginning of the new parliamentary term.
The agenda focused on how independent schools can best utilise their freedoms to innovate in teaching practice and curriculum design as well as the latest thinking on sharing best practice. The challenges posed by Government's decision to exclude iGCSEs from qualification league tables and the future of the inspection regime for independent schools was also discussed.
Further sessions considered international markets, including the challenges for attracting increasing numbers of international students and expanding UK independent schools into other markets worldwide, and the likely impact of reforms to Tier 4 visas on the recruitment of international students by independent schools.
Delegates also discussed the contribution made by independent schools to England’s economy and education system, alongside the effect the new funding will have on encouraging more independent and state school partnerships and increasing the number of bursaries offered to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
