This seminar examined the Government's progress towards meeting its target of reducing the percentage of NEETs by 2% by 2010. As the recessionary period took hold and the percentage of young people out of school and work continued to rise, panels examined what leads to young people becoming NEETs, the relevance of the education system to young people and the impact and consequences of raising the school leaving age. Furthermore, the seminar also considered the Government's response to the recent rise in NEETs, including the recently launched 'Backing Young Britain' campaign, as well as the accessibility of apprenticeships and other work opportunities.
