Guest of Honour: Dr David Colin-Thomé, National Director for Primary Care, Department of Health

The coalition programme for government outlines the intention to investigate ways of improving access to preventative healthcare for those in disadvantaged areas as part of the strategy to tackle health inequalities.

This seminar will look at what more can be done to improve the early diagnosis and prevention of illness - focusing on the role of new technology in diagnosis and monitoring, on what more can be done to encourage research and innovation in healthcare, and the challenges faced in technology adoption.

Further sessions also examine the role of primary care in early diagnosis, including opportunities through increased access to diagnostic equipment in GP-led health centres and polyclinics, and how healthy living and prevention campaigns can be communicated more effectively to the general population, with reference to expected pressures on government social marketing budgets.
