Next steps for heat networks in the UK: regulation, consumer engagement, and innovation in heat technology and infrastructure

Morning, Tuesday, 29th January 2019

Central London

This timely seminar will assess the future for heat networks in the UK and potential measures to support the growth of the sector - looking in particular at investment, policy and regulation, and next steps for innovation in technology and infrastructure.

It takes place in the context of the Government’s £320 million Heat Network Investment Project, which aims to develop market conditions for private and public investment - with the main scheme due to start receiving applications in Autumn 2018.

Delegates will discuss priorities for guidance from policymakers on investment and supporting the commercialisation of heat network technology, including driving innovation in technology and infrastructure, accelerating the decarbonisation of heat supply, and opportunities for private and public groups to deliver district heating projects.

The agenda will also bring together key stakeholder perspectives on recommendations from the recently-published Competition and Markets Authority heat networks market study, looking at consumer protection standards, improving transparency, and protecting customers from poorly designed infrastructure.

Delegates will consider potential frameworks for regulatory design and delivery - as well as lessons learned from voluntary district heating standards.

Further sessions focus on the integration of heat network systems and infrastructure, challenges for delivering projects in urban environments, and the role of both industry and local authorities in collaborating on infrastructure delivery.
